Gibbons Badlands Prairie
Feb 27, 2026
ENPS and several concerned residents of Gibbons expressed their concerns to Gibbons Town Council in the fall over breaches in the perimeter fencing at Gibbons Badlands Prairie.
These breaches in the perimeter fencing have allowed access to all-terrain vehicles, causing considerable damage to the badland slopes of the Sturgeon River, opposite the town. Our thanks go to local residents Jen and Aaron who, with Town Council approval, went out and fixed the fence themselves.
This may not entirely solve the problem of snowmobiles accessing the slopes across the frozen Sturgeon River during the winter, however, and more work needs to be done on protection. ENPS is planning on collaborating with the local “Friends” group to hold a spring event in Gibbons to raise awareness of the ecological value of the Prairie.
