A sustainable yard with a diverse mix of native plants supports a wide variety of insects and wildlife.
The Edmonton Native Plant Society has been working with Waste Free Edmonton on their newest campaign, which aims to encourage people to upgrade their lawns to more sustainable gardens. We recommend starting with a small section of lawn and converting it to local native plants. As opposed to traditional lawns, native plants have many benefits and they require little water, no fertilizer and no pesticides. Check out the website at GoBeyondTheLawn.com for more information. For a list of local native plant suppliers, go to the ENPS website at https://www.enps.ca/source.
