About the event
This presentation offers practical ways to create healthier, more sustainable landscapes using native plants. We will begin with the basics of working with native plant seeds, including when and how to collect, clean, and save them. Key principles of landscape design will be discussed, with a focus on creating attractive spaces that work well in urban settings. In addition, the presentation will discuss the pros and cons of adding native grasses into the landscape. Participants will learn the best times of year to plant native species and effective planting techniques that support better outcomes. We will also cover soil preparation specifically for native plants. Finally, the session will explore how to replace a part of, or the entire traditional lawn into a more environmentally friendly alternative, reducing maintenance while increasing ecological value.
